This essay is so universally true that I can't understand why liberals don't see it! They keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome . . .

Progressives do not see it because they possess a genetic defect that prevents them from seeing cause and effect (actions and consequences). The vast majority of them have only signed a paycheck on the back, therefore have no clue about real financial risk and responsibility, let alone had to mortgage their home to make payroll or fund company operations during a cash crunch. They like to feel good and virtuous, cost be damned.
