Thanks, Darlene. I would guess that 90% of my readers came from Rip’s Newsletter. That’s why there has been so much enthusiasm shown for reviving it.

Yes...but.The "but" is the subject of accomplishment, survival, winning a competition, reaching for the stars. We humans have built cars, moving from the Tin Lizzie to the corvette. Each time we have sought better streamlining, more fuel efficiency, more power, better road handling and so forth. Basically, a car is only transportation. But look at what we have done to the idea. Turning the subject of transportation over to AI, maybe we get personal jet packs, suits that fly, some kind of machine that can take an individual, enclose him in armor, keep his temperature steady and comfortable, handle personal elimination, guide him while he is sleeping or even put him to sleep as he crosses the Nevada desert, wake him at his destination, refreshed and ready to do business. Take him across the country, under the ocean, over the highest mountain, etc. But what about efficiency. People need a special environment. Creating that environment is costly. Should we look for something more efficient? Does efficiency include the compromises necessary to coddle humans?
