Schools and even college and pro sports team have lost a lot that bound people together. We have lost a lot more than just team names. We’ve lost communal identity. C
Brought back memories of my high school teaching years.....drums go with football....
my son played the snare drum....the rhythm and cadence brought feelings of belonging, having a purpose, a driving force......oh yo hear those again!! God bless..R. Abney
Yessir I was and could not agree more. Drum Major at that! Also played french horn in the concert band. Fantstic memories. Can't say enough about the order, dedication and camaraderie associated with all of it. Great times. Wouldn't trade any of it. Gave me a life long appreciation of all genres of music, as well.
Phillip, this was written for people like you. If you read it again you will begin to notice the drum-like cadences within the piece. We spend a lot of time perfecting these devices. Most people don’t recognize it, but they certainly feel it. That’s the Cadence. Jim
Brings back so many memories. I too, can still hear the drum cadences of my high school band. I remember our summer practices which turned into before school practices and climaxed with our Friday night pregame and game time performances. There was a crispness to every step coupled with guiding left and right, knees up/ thighs parallel to the ground as we proudly executed what we had worked so hard to perfect. Those drum cadences as we marched down the street and entered the stadium still give me chills.
Having had the grand experience of growing up in several small towns in the South, football games were always a social mainstay. That was the era of scouting, where Eagle Scouts were esteemed, Girl Scouts actually sold cookies with scant adult participation, boys cut grass and delivered papers or groceries for spending money, families managed well with one car. Achievers were honored. Ido miss those days.
To current day… my elite undergraduate college has evolved into an organization I don’t recognize physically, culturally or politically. They continue to solicit donations via mail with my name misspelled (despite my attempts to correct them over a decade ago). Their reward for crass incompetence and adopted leftist ideology is to populate the recycling bin unopened to be mulched into third rate cardboard in China. Fitting.
Cadence! It still rings true in Ohio! My Grandson was cheered on by his cousin while they went undefeated 12-0 at Highland Highschool in Hinckley Ohio this fall. his cousin played in the horn section. The Band was as good as the team. It made our cheering section unite home or away. the games were sold out. Opponents schools all had marching bands. well coached players prevail as a tean becomes one. My grandson also graduated with honors! Along with his cousin. Before he heads out to college, he always has time to help me with property. Point being.I never have to ask him for help. Thank you! Kevin.
The entire purpose of the opposition is to oppose. Does not make any difference if what you are doing is working. Doesn’t make any difference if what they propose (not much) has not a chance in hell of working. The idea is to oppose at all costs. Most people have not figured out that simple dynamic. Logic has nothing to do with it. In fact, it seems that the more you are succeeding, the more they will oppose. This thinking is George Constanza adjacent. It is the life blood of the Left. And why nothing seems to make any sense. It doesn’t.

Phillip, if you were in a marching band then you know exactly what I am talking about. It never leaves you. It is visceral.

What is this? Is it 1955 again?
I agree. All to support small, vocal
Minority interests. Time to take our world back. We have split people apart rather than bring them together. Time for that to end.

Love it! Well done. Thanks, Jim. Thank you for taking over for Rip, as well!
