Human nature is what we often call "common sense". Why should I exert myself greater than another if not for greater rewards? I will endure hardship if there is a reward at the end. And it is I who determines the worth of the reward. During WWII the Germans incentivized prison workers to perform at a higher level by offering cigarettes as an inducement. Even under prison conditions of minimum subsistence, incentives worked.

We have some significant educating to do, as the education system has failed to educate our youth in regards to true American history. How our nation came into being, and why we are such a strong and moral nation are things that have been deliberately left out of school curricula for at least 2 decades. I taught music in Belfair, WA for five years a long time ago. As a teacher, you need to use knowledge of human nature all the time. I got out of teaching and became a software engineer. I even worked for Battelle for a couple years (PNNL), but was stationed at Fort Lewis. Great job. Was doing the internet before it became the internet.
